Healy’s Daily MLB DraftKings Plays – 8/28/23

Healy's MLB DFS Breakdown

Healy’s MLB Daily Fantasy Intro:

Excited to bring my MLB GPP cheatsheet back to the team at 4DEEP, where we will look to build upon all of our past success. Today, I’ll be covering the main slate beginning at 7:05pm. If you’re not familiar with this piece, it will be broken down into the following three sections. A cheat sheet with three tiers of players (each pricing tier is based on DraftKings positions/pricing and includes my preferred cash plays from each position), my favorite stacks to target and which players in said stacks I prefer, and lastly, my “Today’s Edge” section, which covers my edge play/fade of the slate, top HR picks, and the players I expect to be the top performers.

Cheatsheet:

I’m here to give you the players to consider for your 8/28/23 MLB GPPs. This isn’t a list of every player I will have, but rather the top guys I am including in my stacks/core, whether it be as a matchup-based play, ownership-based play, or even a leverage play, they will all be included in this core list.

$ Tier SP C 1B 2B 3B SS OF
Top Tier Kevin Gausman Elias Diaz Matt Olson Jose Altuve Manny Machado Gunnar Henderson Soto/Tatis/Acuna
Mid Tier Grayson Rodriguez Gary Sanchez Ryan Mountcastle Edouard Julien Ryan McMahon X. Bogaerts Jones/Ozuna/Santander
Value Tier Kyle Harrison Hunter Goodman Garrett Cooper Brice Turang Wilmer Flores Orlando Arcia Toglia/Seth Brown/O’Hearn/Grisham

Pitching Pool:

  • Kevin Gausman – TOR vs. WAS – DK: $11.2k / FD: $10.9k
  • Kenta Maeda – MIN vs. CLE – DK: $9.2k / FD: $8.9k
  • Grayson Rodriguez – BAL vs. CWS – DK: $7.5k / FD: $8.7k
  • Kyle Harrison – SF vs. CIN – DK: $6.5k / FD: $6.9k

Stacks:

  1. Rockies: A common strategy in MLB GPPs is either full game stacking or leveraging an under owned offense facing off with the chalk. If salary wasn’t a thing, we’d all be stacking the Braves nearly every night, especially tonight in Colorado vs. a LHP. I’m most exposed to the ROX tonight in the Coors Field showdown, with Bryce Elder taking the hill for Atlanta. As noted ahead of his last start, he has greatly regressed in the second half, while sporting a MASSIVE 2.5% K rate to LHH.  McMahon is the top play, followed by Jones and Toglia. I’m open to use 1-8 tonight for the under owned Rockies.
  2. Padres: Given the top to bottom power in this lineup, they are my favorite pivot off the Braves with the ability to hit 5+ long balls vs. Waino tonight. Another true 1-9 spot for the Padres facing Wainwright, who is allowing over a .410 wOBA to both sides of the plate. 2-6 are elite plays while 7-9 are where I’m hunting for value. Cooper and Grisham, who both strike out at a massive 30% rate, should be able to put bat on ball in the matchup, given Waino’s 12% SO rate.
  3. O’s: Back to the O’s facing off with the wildly inconsistent Mike Kopech. Fairly tight pull of O’s for me tonight, with 2-7 being my biggest focus. Adley leading off is ‘OK,’ but I’d rather use that slot for some savings. Santander and O’Hearn are my favorites, followed by Gunnar and Mountcastle.
  4. Braves: We would like this matchup if played in the most pitcher friendly parks in the league, yet here we are at Coors Field. The sites did a GREAT job of pricing the Braves way up, forcing decisions to be made. All nine starers are firmly in play. Ozuna is the bat I’m highest on, followed by Acuna, Harris, and Olson

Today’s Edge:

  • Home Run Predictions:
    • Ryan McMahon
    • Trent Grisham
  • Highest Scoring Hitter: Ryan McMahon
  • Highest Scoring Pitcher: Kevin Gausman
  • Top Value Play: Kyle Harrison
  • Player to Fade: Bryan Woo
  • Slate Edge: Nolan Jones!
