Healy’s Daily MLB DraftKings Plays – 8/25/23

Healy's MLB DFS Breakdown

Healy’s MLB Daily Fantasy Intro:

Excited to bring my MLB GPP cheatsheet back to the team at 4DEEP, where we will look to build upon all of our past success. Today, I’ll be covering the main slate beginning at 7:05pm. If you’re not familiar with this piece, it will be broken down into the following three sections. A cheat sheet with three tiers of players (each pricing tier is based on DraftKings positions/pricing and includes my preferred cash plays from each position), my favorite stacks to target and which players in said stacks I prefer, and lastly, my “Today’s Edge” section, which covers my edge play/fade of the slate, top HR picks, and the players I expect to be the top performers.

Cheatsheet:

I’m here to give you the players to consider for your 8/25/23 MLB GPPs. This isn’t a list of every player I will have, but rather the top guys I am including in my stacks/core, whether it be as a matchup-based play, ownership-based play, or even a leverage play, they will all be included in this core list.

$ Tier SP C 1B 2B 3B SS OF
Top Tier Kodai Senga Adley Rutschman Bryce Harper Ketel Marte Raf Devers Corey Seager Carroll/Robert
Mid Tier Dane Dunning W. Contreras Ryan Mountcastle B. Stott Max Muncy Tom Edman Hayes/Verdugo
Value Tier Brandon Pfaadt James McCann Triston Casas B. Rodgers Jordan Westburg Jorge Mateo O’Neill/Abreu

Pitching Pool:

  • Kodai Senga – NYM vs. LAA – DK: $9.6k / FD: $10.9k
  • Mitch Keller – PIT vs. CHC – DK: $8.8k / FD: $9.7k
  • Dane Dunning – TEX @ MIN – DK: $7.4k / FD: $8k
  • Brandon Pfaadt – ARI vs. CIN – DK: $5.6k / FD: $7.5k

Stacks:

  1. Orioles: While I prefer the O’s vs. RHP typically, they draw a strong home matchup vs. Kyle Freeland (LH), who has been shelled by RHH all year. The O’s have several switch hitters, making them a nightmare matchup for any pitcher. Mountcastle is the play of the day while Adley, Westburg, and Hayes look strong. I’m not opposed to Cedric Mullins in a L/L matchup at zero ownership.
  2. Cardinals: While I hate picking on my Phillies, this is a tough spot for Sanchez, who has thrived vs. LHH and been average to righties. The Cards likely roll out NINE RHH, several of which profile well vs. his Sinker/Change pitch mix. Contreras and O’Neill actually look best. 1-5 is preferred, but I’m not against some value in Motter or Winn.
  3. Red Sox: Similar to the next game, I’m targeting an offense facing a solid arm. Digging deeper, Lynn has found ALL of his success vs. RHH, while allowing a good clip of production against lefties. 1-5 are all strong plays here, while I’m fine using an Abreu or Story value piece. Devers and Casas are my favorites of the bunch.
  4. Diamondbacks: Facing a wildly inconsistent Hunter Greene, who has the ability to go out and K 12 or walk 4+ and get an early third inning exit. He is primarily a two-pitch pony with FB/Slider combo. Jace Peterson and Jose Herrera profile very poor and likely K, but the rest of the D-backs’ lineup profiles well vs. the slider, and more importantly, have average to below average K rates. Play the usual suspects: Marte, Carroll, and Walker look best.

Today’s Edge:

  • Home Run Predictions:
    • Ryan Mountcastle
    • Raf Devers
  • Highest Scoring Hitter: Ryan Mountcastle
  • Highest Scoring Pitcher: Spencer Strider
  • Top Value Play: Jordan Westburg
  • Player to Fade: Tim Anderson
  • Slate Edge: Willson Contreras – STL!
