Healy’s 8/9/23 MLB Breakdown

Healy's MLB DFS Breakdown

Intro:
Excited to bring my MLB GPP cheatsheet back to the team at 4DEEP, where we will look to build upon all of our past success. Today, I’ll be covering the main slate beginning at 7:05pm. If you’re not familiar with this piece, it will be broken down into the following three sections. A cheat sheet with three tiers of players (each pricing tier is based on DraftKings positions/pricing and includes my preferred cash plays from each position), my favorite stacks to target and which players in said stacks I prefer, and lastly, my “Today’s Edge” section, which covers my edge play/fade of the slate, top HR picks, and the players I expect to be the top performers.

Cheatsheet:
I’m here to give you the players to consider for your 8/9/23 MLB GPPs. This isn’t a list of every player I will have, but rather the top guys I am including in my stacks/core, whether it be as a matchup-based play, ownership-based play, or even a leverage play, they will all be included in this core list.

$ Tier SP C 1B 2B 3B SS OF
Top Tier S. Ohtani Adley Rutschman Matt Olson Ketel Marte Man Machado Xander Bogaerts Robert/Soto
Mid Tier N. Pivetta Fran Alvarez Andrew Vaughn Jake Cronenworth Gunnar Henderson Orlando Arcia Santander/Harris/Gurriel
Value Tier J. Flaherty Luis Campusano Ryan O’Hearn Adam Frazier Yoan Moncada Tim Anderson Eloy/Grisham/Colas

Pitching Pool:

  • Shohei Ohtani – LAA vs. SF
  • Max Fried – ATL @ PIT
  • Nick Pivetta – BOS vs. KC
  • Jack Flaherty – BAL vs. HOU

Stacks:

  1. White Sox: Facing off with Luis Severino, who just hasn’t been able to get his magic back this season. Continuously leaning on his fastball, he is being punished start after start, expect no different tonight! Robert, Vaughn are the top plays, while 1-8 are all in play.
  2. Braves: Hate the ballpark, but Quinn Priester is BY FAR the worst arm going on tonight’s slate, vs. the top offense to boot, and they will once again be underowned due to pricing. Olson and Harris profile best for me, but Priester is garbage. 1-9 all in play!
  3. Orioles: Javier has been so inconsistent from start to start, with one thing remaining constant – conceding long balls and hard hits, particularly against LHH. Gunnar, Santander and O’Hearn in the core to build around, while all 1-9 is in play.
  4. D-backs: Late Night Hammer! Solid pitch data matchup for 1-6, plus McCarthy tonight for the D-backs. Marte, Gurriel are my preferred plays while mixing in the remaining bats in the top half of the order.
  5. Padres: Another late night team to leverage ownership against some of the expensive stacks. Facing off with a rookie making a jump from AA, it’s a full stack or avoid spot. We have seen endless rookies make this leap and shit themselves, unable to find the zone and start to groove fastballs, which leads to punishment. Soto, Machado, and Cronenworth would be my priorities.

Today’s Edge:

  • Home Run Predictions:
    • Andrew Vaughn
    • Matt Olson
  • Highest Scoring Hitter: Ron Acuna
  • Highest Scoring Pitcher: Shohei Ohtani
  • Top Value Play: Ryan O’Hearn
  • Player to Fade: Whit Merrifield
  • Slate Edge: Luis Robert
