Healy’s 8/21/23 MLB Breakdown

Healy's MLB DFS Breakdown

Intro:
Excited to bring my MLB GPP cheatsheet back to the team at 4DEEP, where we will look to build upon all of our past success. Today, I’ll be covering the main slate beginning at 7:05pm. If you’re not familiar with this piece, it will be broken down into the following three sections. A cheat sheet with three tiers of players (each pricing tier is based on DraftKings positions/pricing and includes my preferred cash plays from each position), my favorite stacks to target and which players in said stacks I prefer, and lastly, my “Today’s Edge” section, which covers my edge play/fade of the slate, top HR picks, and the players I expect to be the top performers.

Cheatsheet:
I’m here to give you the players to consider for your 8/21/23 MLB GPPs. This isn’t a list of every player I will have, but rather the top guys I am including in my stacks/core, whether it be as a matchup-based play, ownership-based play, or even a leverage play, they will all be included in this core list.

$ Tier SP C 1B 2B 3B SS OF
Top Tier Luis Castillo Cal Raleigh Matt Olson Jose Altuve Raf Devers Corey Seager Tucker/Julio
Mid Tier Paul Blackburn Yainer Diaz Triston Casas Trevor Story Man Machado JP Crawford Ozuna/Verdugo
Value Tier Drew Rom Gabe Moreno Gavin Sheets Mike Massey Jordan Diaz Orlando Arcia Marlowe/McCormick

Pitching Pool:

  • Luis Castillo – SEA @ CWS – DK: $10.3k / FD: $10.7k
  • Allan Winans – ATL vs. NYM – DK: $7.5k / FD: $6.5k
  • Paul Blackburn – OAK vs. KC – DK: $7k / FD: $7.8k
  • Drew Rom – STL @ PIT – DK: $4k / FD: $5.5k

Stacks:

  1. Braves: The tag on Acuna and Olson is laughable at mid/upper $6k range, even punting off SP, you likely aren’t jamming them all, so I’d prefer Olson if choosing. Harris, Ozuna, and Arcia are secondary options, but it’s the Braves, play any of the starting bats.
  2. Astros: We are going to pick on Pax again tonight against the low-strikeout Astros. 1-6 is my focus, but willing to grab one of the bottom three. Tucker and McCormick are my favorite options, followed by Altuve.
  3. Red Sox: GAME STACK: Looking for a solid offensive game despite two big-name pitchers taking the mound. Javier is still near elite vs. RHH and AWFUL vs. LHH. Going back to the lefties, led by Devers, and mixing in a RHH or two in my stacks. Devers, Casas, Verdugo are my top three.
  4. Mariners: You can’t stack this team without Julio, who is seeing beachballs at the plate right now. Full 1-9 stacks are well in play, given Touki has a generous 16.5% walk rate. Crawford leading off is a strong value and profiles very well, while Cal Raleigh will be another anchor of M’s stacks.
  5. Power mini stacks & one-offs:
    • Boston LHH
    • Texas LHH

Today’s Edge:

  • Home Run Predictions:
    • Chas McCormick
    • Marcell Ozuna
  • Highest Scoring Hitter: Matt Olson
  • Highest Scoring Pitcher: Luis Castillo
  • Top Value Play: Chas McCormick
  • Player to Fade: Paul Goldschmidt
  • Slate Edge: Triston Casas
