Healy’s 8/14/23 MLB Breakdown

Healy's MLB DFS Breakdown

Intro:
Excited to bring my MLB GPP cheatsheet back to the team at 4DEEP, where we will look to build upon all of our past success. Today, I’ll be covering the main slate beginning at 7:10pm. If you’re not familiar with this piece, it will be broken down into the following three sections. A cheat sheet with three tiers of players (each pricing tier is based on DraftKings positions/pricing and includes my preferred cash plays from each position), my favorite stacks to target and which players in said stacks I prefer, and lastly, my “Today’s Edge” section, which covers my edge play/fade of the slate, top HR picks, and the players I expect to be the top performers.

Cheatsheet:
I’m here to give you the players to consider for your 8/14/23 MLB GPPs. This isn’t a list of every player I will have, but rather the top guys I am including in my stacks/core, whether it be as a matchup-based play, ownership-based play, or even a leverage play, they will all be included in this core list.

$ Tier SP C 1B 2B 3B SS OF
Top Tier Tyler Glasnow Sean Murphy Matt Olson Ozzie Albies Austin Riley Bob Witt Carroll/Garcia
Mid Tier Logan Gilbert Jonah Heim Christian Walker Zack Gelof Ezeq. Duran Gunnar Henderson Gurriel/Harris/Rosario
Value Tier Carlos Carrasco Shea Langeliers Seth Brown Dylan Moore Jace Peterson Orlando Arcia Rooker/Bleday

Pitching Pool:

  • Tyler Glasnow – TB @ SF – DK: $10.8k / FD: $10.7k
  • Max Scherzer – TEX vs. LAA – DK: $11k / FD: $10.5k
  • Logan Gilbert – SEA @ KC – DK: $9.7k / FD: $10k
  • Carlos Carrasco – NYM vs. PIT – DK: $6k / FD: $6.9k

Stacks:

  1. Diamondbacks: As we discussed last week, Chris Flexen just can’t hack it, now he has to throw in Coors. He is allowing over a .215 ISO to both sides of the plate, making 1-9 all in play. They will be the chalk offense, but not owned enough, IMO. Walker and Gurriel are clear top bats followed by Carroll.
  2. Braves: Nothing new here, play the best offense in baseball in a spot they will be underowned based on their prices yet again. LHH are preferred against Clarke Schmidt with Olson being my favorite. Schmidt’s cutter, which he throws ~34% of the time, is going to get him punished if he throws it that much tonight. All nine starters profile amazing against it, eight of nine with an ISO over .209 and wOBA  over .360.
  3. Oakland: Value stack that makes lineups come together and allows for leverage off what I expect to be a semi-popular value arm based on his matchup alone. Facing Mikolas, a very low swing and miss arm, who relies on batted ball outs. 1-8 are all in play with the power of Seth Brown and Brent Rooker being the top plays with Butler and Soderstrom being strong values.
  4. Rangers: While the top three are pricey, the rest of this offense is extremely affordable. 1-4 are all firmly in play, but I’m actually highest on Garcia, then 5-9 hitters tonight. They profile far better and check in all sub-$4k. Heim and Duran are my preferred options.

Today’s Edge:

  • Home Run Predictions:
    • Adolis Garcia
    • Christian Walker
  • Highest Scoring Hitter: Matt Olson
  • Highest Scoring Pitcher: Tyler Glasnow
  • Top Value Play: Seth Brown
  • Player to Fade: Lars Nootbar
  • Slate Edge: Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
