Scarface’s 2023 NFL Week 1 Intro:
Welcome, 4Deeps, to my weekly NFL GPP article. Time to pick up right where we left off last year, coming off my best NFL season and helping you guys win also. I want to welcome the new subs and let you know that it won’t be pretty every week, but the weeks that are, we will go straight to the top.
In this article, I will list my favorite plays at each position with a mini breakdown, followed by some game stack ideas we can use in GPPs, and my Core 4 building blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel. In keeping with the Scarface theme, I will conclude with my “Say Hello to My Little Friend” (Slate Edge Play), “Every Dog Has His Day” (Favorite Value Play), and “Say Goodnight to the Bad Guy” (Chalk Fade).
Also don’t forget to check out the Mayhem Minute section on Game Day for a more narrowed breakdown of my favorite plays at each position.
Thoughts on the Slate:
You never know what to expect week one in the NFL. Crazy shit happens, so we may need to get a little crazy this week. Because of the craziness, my player pool will be a little bigger than I would normally have it. It’s definitely a weekend to make multiple lineups and get exposure In different places. My QB pool is especially bigger than I would normally have, so my strategy will be to pick a core group of RB and WR and fill it with combos of QB/WR stacks to get exposure to the ones I like.
I will be available in Discord Sunday Mornings for any questions you have about your lineups. ??
UPDATES: PLEASE CHECK BACK SUNDAY MORNING FOR UPDATES. CORE 4 HAS BEEN ADDED – 10:30am
QB:
- Jalen Hurts – Showed us last year that he can rack up points in any matchup, this one is no different.
- Lamar Jackson – Tommy talked me onto him on the Round Table last night. (Yes, Tommy actually made sense for once). He should come in with sub 10% ownership and I’ll take that for his slate-breaking upside.
- Justin Fields – Another high-ceiling QB that should come in lower-owned than he normally would.
- Justin Herbert – Highest total on the slate and he should be slinging it.
- Trevor Lawrence – Love stacking him with two of his pass catchers (see WR section below).
- Geno Smith – Rams secondary is a mess and Geno should pick them apart.
- Anthony Richardson – Massive rushing upside in a game I think can stay pretty close.
- Sam Howell (DK only) – If there were ever a game to start him, it’s this one at only $4900.
RB:
- Austin Ekeler – I will be using him in lineups where I fade the passing game.
- Nick Chubb – Chubb will be a big part of Cleveland’s game plan this week.
- Alexander Mattison – Should get a full workload against a bad TB defense.
- Aaron Jones – They will lean on him more with injuries to their WR. Has a history of torching Chicago.
- Jamaal Williams – Will have nice usage while Kamara is out.
- Brian Robinson – For his price and matchup, he is one of my favorite plays on the slate.
- Deon Jackson – Love him at this price. He ate in this same matchup last year for 24 FP.
- Tyler Allgeier (FD only) – Yes, they have Bijan, but Allgeier isn’t going away. A great tournament play that could vulture a TD or two.
WR:
- Justin Jefferson – JJ has slate-breaking upside every week.
- Tyreek Hill – The most explosive player in the highest total on the slate.
- AJ Brown – Pair him with Hurts.
- DK Metcalf – DK always over Lockett, should torch the Rams this week.
- Chris Olave – I think he and Carr connect right away.
- Mike Williams – I like both he and Keenan Allen, but I will take the discount on Williams instead.
- Calvin Ridley – Love pairing him with T-Law.
- Chris Godwin – He should see a ton of targets working out of the slot, where Minnesota couldn’t stop anyone last year.
- Drake London – Another Tommy G special that I have to agree with. He’s gonna eat.
- Jahan Dotson / Terry McLaurin – One of these guys is gonna get his in this matchup.
- Van Jefferson – A great tournament pivot off the Higbee chalk with no Kupp.
- Marvin Mims (DK only) – Will be popular, but he does make a lot of lineups work and doesn’t need much to pay off.
TE:
- Evan Engram – I will be using him in my Lawrence builds.
- David Njoku – One of the higher owned TEs, but is priced nicely.
- Dalton Schultz – CJ Stroud’s security blanket and will not carry much ownership.
- Tyler Higbee – He’ll be the highest-owned TE on the slate with Kupp out.
- Chig Okonkwo – He was very good to us last year and I will be using him a lot this year.
- Hayden Hurst – The Carolina WRs are all beat up, and Rookies lean on their TE.
- Isaiah Likely – Love this guy with or without Andrews on the field. Andrews popped up with a Q tag yesterday. If he’s out, Likely is a lock play for me.
DEF:
Defense is always a crapshoot. My strategy most weeks is to build out my lineups first and see which defenses I land on. This week, however, we have a lot of defenses going against Rookie or backup QBs and those are the ones to target. My favorites are:
- Baltimore
- Washington
- Atlanta
- Jacksonville
Game Stack Ideas:
- Jaguars @ Colts – Trevor Lawrence / Ridley / Engram or Kirk, run back with Deon Jackson
- Seahawks vs. Rams – Geno Smith / Metcalf / Smith-Njigba, run it back with Higbee or Van Jefferson
- Washington onslaught – Howell / Robinson / Dotson / Washington D
Core 4 on FanDuel:
- Deon Jackson / Brian Robinson / Justin Jefferson / Isaiah Likely
Core 4 on DraftKings:
- Deon Jackson / Brian Robinson / Justin Jefferson / Isaiah Likely
