Price's 2024 American Express Breakdown

Price’s 2024 American Express DFS Breakdown

This week is the start of the California/west coast swing for the PGA season. This week at the Amex, it is a three-course rotation and then the cut is after round 3. All three courses are easy to score on, two are a bit easier historically, and the Stadium course, which they also play for the final round, is generally the toughest and is also the only one with ShotLink to track strokes gained data. This is a pro-am, so the rounds will be slow, greens will be easy, and scores will be low. For showdown contests, I would avoid the stadium course and then target guys who don’t tee off when it’s 40 degrees first thing in the morning. It’s a surprisingly strong field, and I think we will have some fun navigating the different lineup constructions. I am personally going to make 18 lineups this week, so I will put an asterisk by the guys who made my player pool. There will be others listed as well who I decided to not play, but that’s because when I created the lineups they just didn’t fall into my build – it’s golf, they are definitely in play, this is just a tournament where long odds guys have won more frequently than shorter odds, so I got weird. All prices listed are for DraftKings.

$9K+:

  • Scheffler – #1 player in my model. I am fading because of his price, but can’t blame you for clicking his name, as he is as elite as they come.
  • *Cantlay – Good history here, rates third for me, with a nice $600 discount from Scottie.
  • *Sungjae – He has five straight top 20’s here and finished fifth at the Sentry, love him.
  • Tom Kim – Rates ninth for me in stats, I think you pick one of him or Sungjae to pair with the next guy.
  • *Poston – Dude is en fuego, love him again this week and he’s fifth in stats for me.
  • *Kirk – Choked Sunday, but I think that just brings his ownership down and he has another solid week.

$7.5K+:

  • *Clark – Only rates 30th, but his elite putting should help this week and I like that he knocked the rust off already.
  • *Cole – The DFS darling back at it again, I expect another top 20 from him this week.
  • *Montgomery – He looked amazing last week minus one bad round, is priced fairly, and if he’s gaining strokes with his irons, he will contend to win.
  • *Davis – Rates 11th, had a great bounceback week after a poor first week.
  • *Jaeger – Will be chalky, rates eighth in stats for me.
  • *Hossler – His iron play is always suspect, but he somehow always pops at birdie-fests. Rates 18th for me.
  • *Pendrith – Coming in with four top 20’s in his last five starts, gaining on approach each time (which is new), and rates 18th in stats for me.
  • *Schenk – Will be semi-popular due to industry talking him up, rates 43rd for me.
  • *Nick Taylor – Does not rate well in stats for me, more of a gut play.
  • *Hisatsune – This guy is a solid player, finished great for us last week and only went up $400, rates 40th for me.
  • I am making one lineup just for Berger exposure, even though it’s probably a waste.

$6K+:

  • *Griffin – Rates 31st for me, coming off a good week. These are the tournaments he does well in.
  • *Lindheim – Rates 34th for me, love this guy as he’s made every cut when I’ve played him.
  • *Ryder – Had elite form to end last season, rates 12th for me.
  • *Hubbard – Hubbard is a guy I like in these birdie-fests. Rates 23rd for me.
  • *Bezuidenhout – I never get Bez right, but he rates 39th for me and finished 11th here last year.
  • *Kohles – Rates 50th for me, but this rookie has all the talent to make it work on tour.
  • *Hadley – God-awful course history, but he rates 13th in stats for me.
  • *Knapp – Popped last week, is being talked up by a lot in the industry for a cheap play.
  • *Bridgeman – Missed the cut by one last week, is a guy I will target in these not as strong field events due to his birdie-making ability he showed on the KFT.
  • Duncan – Rates 22nd for me, great cheap play.
  • Sigg – Will be a popular cheap play, rates 24th in stats for me.
  • Ramey – Rates 17th in stats for me, touched on this on the show that he has won in weaker field, birdie-fest events before and lets you get to Scottie.
