Price's PGA Shriners Children's Breakdown

Price’s 2023 Shriners Children’s Open DFS Breakdown:

This week we head out to Las Vegas for the Shriners Children’s Open. We have a good amount of history here to pull data from, and we have a handful of top 50 players in the world showing up this week, including defending champ Tom Kim.

Being in Vegas, they’re playing a decent amount above sea level, so the ball will travel farther, making the course not play the true 7200 yards. We will see a lot of approach shots with a wedge. This is a birdie fest, so expect the winning score to be in the mid 20’s under par. All prices listed are for DraftKings.

$10K+:

  • Kim: $10,900 – Defending champ, rates well, and would not be playing here just because unless he intended to try and repeat.
  • Davis: $10,300 – Has four made cuts in a row here, rates fifth overall in stats for me, is top 10 in tee to green, birdie or better, bogey avoidance, and short par 4’s.
  • GPP Plays: Aberg, Poston

$9K+:

  • Cole: $9800 – He disappointed last week as the mega chalk. It looks like he will be chalky again this week. He missed the cut on the number here last year, but rates 10th in stats for me.
  • Hojgaard: $9600 – No history here, but has been lights out on Euro tour, decent showing at the Ryder Cup, and rates 16th for me. He is a great putter and wedge player, so this course should suit his style of play.
  • Schenk: $9200 – He is looking like the highest owned player this week, but his recent form is great, he rates seventh for me in stats, and has four made cuts in a row here with three top 18 finishes.
  • GPP Plays: Hadwin

$8K+:

This range is AMAZING  this week.

  • Spaun: $8900 – JJ has three made cuts here in four tries, with two top 15 finishes. He rates 12th for me this week in stats with the only negative being he is a shitty putter. If he is neutral with the putter, he will get another T15.
  • Rai: $8800 – Rai rates second for me in stats, and this is a course that sets up great for his style of play. He finished 20th here last year, rates top 10 in approach, tee to green, bogey avoidance, and good drives gained.
  • Smalley: $8500 – Smalley rates fourth for me this week. His approach is elite, his tee to green is elite, literally the only thing holding him back is putting. He has made the cut the only time he played here.
  • Hubbard: $8000 – Hubbard got us a T10 last week, and this week he rates 14th here, while making three of four cuts at this tournament. If his short wedges are working, he will finish T20 for us, because the rest of his game fits this course great.
  • GPP Plays: Bez, Putnam, Norrman

$7K+:

The $7k range is where the winning lineups will differentiate themselves.

  • Ghim: $7800 – Ghim rates first in the stat model, because I will always rate iron play higher than putting, and he is top 10 in the field in basically every metric besides putting (where he is dreadful). He is first in the field in GIR, just need the putter to somewhat cooperate.
  • Griffin: $7500 – The fading down the stretch Sunday has me slightly worried, as that can mess with the psyche. He rates 24th for me in stats, obviously has shown he can contend, just needs to not be in his head about this past week’s finish.
  • Ryder: $7400 – Ryder had a bad finish after a great round 1 last week, but he rates third in stats for me, has three solid finishes here in the last five years, including a third place finish, and should be in the mix for a top 20 finish.
  • Eckroat: $7300 – Eckroat made the cut here last year, rates 25th in stats for me with really solid T2G and bogey avoidance metrics.
  • Kuest: $7200 – Kuest has shown the ability to start fast and fade on the weekends. He is a cut maker, birdie maker, and he rates 30th in stats for me. He is an elite putter, so if he can just not make big mistakes, he will pay off.
  • Merritt: $7000 – Merritt rates 34th in stats for me this week, but is coming in off back to back top nine finishes to start the fall swing. He has mixed history here, but when he has a good finish leading up to this event in the past, he does well here, so we will ride that trend.
  • GPP Plays: Bhatia, Streelman, Thompson, Tarren, Pan, Laird, NeSmith, Lipsky, Ramey

$6K+:

This is the price range you expect most of the missed cuts to come from, you’ve just got to hope that if you use anyone here, he makes the cut and can finish top 40. These are not guys you play in 50%+ of your lineups if you run 10 lineups.

  • Sigg: $6900 – So his shitty Thursday round last week cost us (me in particular, as I would have won five figures if he made the cut and finished T30), but he rates 31st for me and has made the cut here two times in a row.
  • Dahmen: $6700 – This is a total gut play, as he rates terrible in the metrics, but he has five made cuts in a row here and finished 13th last week. F the metrics on this one, cheap play to fill out your roster.
  • Lower: $6600 – Finished 20th here last year, rates 19th in stats for me this week, and is so cheap he is a great last man in.
  • GPP Darts: Michael Kim, Young, Knox, Hoffman, Moore, Redman, Kraft, Roy, Dufner

Core 3 For The Week If:

  • doing stars and scrubs – Davis, Poston, Merritt
  • doing balanced build – Schenk, Rai, Bezuidenhout
