Price’s 2024 Sony Open DFS Breakdown
We stay in Hawaii for this week’s Sony Open, but vastly different course set up than last week. We go from a wide open course to a tight, less than driver set up that’s a par 70 instead of par 73. We have a good field for fantasy purposes, even if it’s not a great field of world rankings. There should be higher winds in the afternoon on Thursday, but the rest of the week seems pretty balanced throughout – if the weather reports are accurate, of course. We have some guys with great course history mixed in with rookies up from the Korn Ferry Tour and a few well known Euro Tour players, it should be a fun week. All prices listed are for DraftKings.
$9K+:
- Aberg- Most talented player in the field and will be high owned. Rates 11th in stats for me.
- Theegala- My favorite leverage play in this range, low owned and elite short game coming off a good fall swing and great finish last week. Rates 16th in stats for me.
- Harman – Four made cuts in a row here and playing amazing golf the last six months. Rates 7th in stats for me.
- Conners – Elite course history, will be popular, all comes down to his putter being average. Rates 19th in stats for me.
- Henley – Three made cuts in a row here, including a 2nd, knocked rust off last week and rated 5th in stats for me.
- Kirk – it’s hard to win back-to-back weeks on tour, but we saw Glover do it and he has two top 3 finishes here the last three years. Rates 13th in stats for me.
- Poston – Three made cuts here in the last five years with a couple top 20’s, has played elite the last six months, including a top 5 finish last week. Rates 4th in stats for me.
$7.5K+:
- An – Finished 12th here last year, finished top 8 last week, and is priced fairly. Rates 39th for me.
- Rose – Has elite history here, shot 12 under Sunday to finish the Sentry, and rates 3rd in stats for me.
- Todd – 4 straight made cuts here with good finishes, was doing great last week until he lost his cool and snapped his driver, rates 32nd in stats for me.
- Kuchar – Kuch has been elite here, only rates 47th in stats, but has a win five years ago here and last two years has finished 7th.
- Glover – His putting woes are back, but has a 5th place finish here two years ago and rates 2nd in stats, will be very popular.
- Svensson – He may be the highest owned in this range (him or Glover) and he rates 9th in stats for me. Has been a cut-making machine the last six months.
- Spaun – Finished 12th here last year, rates 35th in stats, but would be higher if his putter wasn’t so bad. He is top of the field in tee to green and approach.
$6K+:
- Griffin – We played a lot of him in these style events last year and he paid off. He sucks off the tee, but this course doesn’t require you to be good here because it’s less than driver. Finished 12th last year and rates 46th in stats for me.
- Chassart – KFT stud who led them in nearly every scoring category. Typically guys like this translate to playing well in non-elite fields that are on easy courses to score on.
- Taylor – Doesn’t rate the best, but played last week to knock the rust off and he has great history here. A top 30 and he pays off for you and he has three made cuts in a row here including a 7th place finish last year.
- Woodland – Coming off his break after surgery to remove a brain lesion, he rates 12th in stats for me and is someone who if his short game cooperates, he contends.
- Hisatsune – Played him a bunch for euro tour contests last year, he rates 23rd in stats for me and will be basically unowned.
- Kohles – The KFT money list leader last year, played in the RSM a couple months ago and finished 5th. He is someone to watch all season and love his cheap price.
- M. Kim – He had a very good year last season and rates 15th in stats for me. Not great course history, but he turned a corner last year and is solid value.
- R. Moore – Has bad history here, but he rates 6th in stats for me, so stylistically this course should set up for him. GPP dart.
- Tosti – This kid is super talented, but is better known for being a rage monster going off on caddies and other players during rounds. He rates 54th for me and all you need is a made cut to pay off.
- Bridgeman – Another KFT guy who only missed a couple cuts last year, good cheap GPP play.
- Echevarria – He has a handful of top 20’s on tour including here last year, is so cheap and played solid last week, he gives you great salary relief to play a couple top end guys.
- Wouldn’t be opposed to either of the Coody brothers or Sneds if you need multiple cheap guys.
